Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, NV

I began a 5-mile hike at Mt Rose Summit and gently climbed to between 9,000 and 10,000 feet in elevation. The high desert terrain was very dry and dusty as I hiked over rock-strewn mountain sides and through hardy evergreen trees within the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.

Upon cresting the first rise, I was treated to a view of Lake Tahoe in the distance.

During the hike, I saw several ridgelines and rocky outcroppings emerge.

As the trail took me past Mt Rose, I found the brown plants growing in the shape of a downward pointing arrow to be unusual (as if they had been planted that way on purpose).

I began to descend and through the trees I glimpsed an autumn-brown meadow.

I eventually reached my turnaround point, Galena Falls. The waters of Galena Creek tumbled steadily down the hillside, flowed through the meadow, and then continued on down the mountain.
