I investigated two waterfalls near Montgomery Creek, CA which can be found on Hwy 299 northeast of Redding. Plenty of water flowed in both creeks which made a thundering sound that I heard well before I arrived at the falls and provided a beautiful setting at each location.
Potem Falls
I followed a short trail over a series of easy switchbacks to climb down to arrive near the base of Potem Falls.
First Sight of Potem Falls
Potem Falls Amid the Rocks
Trees, bushes, and a few wildflowers made their home in the rocky landscape.
Nettle-Leaf Giant Hyssop
Western Columbine (interesting how they hang upside down)
I Couldn't Identify the Name of this Flower (but it sure looks alien to me)
Hatchet Creek Falls
The trail to Hatchet Creek Falls was also short, but not as well-developed. There I had to navigate through a muddy section, scramble along, down, and back up a steep hillside, and carefully pick my way over wet and slippery rocks along the creek.
