Amboy Crater is made of ash and cinders 250 feet high and 1,500 feet in diameter. Its most recent eruption was approximately 10,000 years ago.

To reach it, I traveled through lava fields to the base of the crater's west side.

From the base of the crater, I climbed its slope, entered through the breach, and then continued upward to the rim.
