The North Umpqua River from the north and the Little River from the south meet virtually head-on at this location. This rare natural phenomenon occurs nowhere else in the state.

The collision ranges from a gentle joining in a common pool during low summer flows to a violent impact in flood conditions. The joined rivers head west and eventually flow into the Pacific Ocean at Reedsport.
