Bears Ears National Monument, UT

I was on my way to The Needles district of Canyonlands National Park, when I received an unexpected surprise. Unbeknownst to me, the same road to the national park passes right through Bears Ears National Monument. What a wonderful bonus!

Landscape

I took advantage of the opportunity by stopping at many of the pull-offs to take a longer look at the spectacular scenery.

This archaeological site's petroglyph panel records approximately 2,000 years of human activity. Scholars are undecided at to the meaning of the different figures or have yet to decipher them. Without a true understanding of the petroglyphs, much is left to individual interpretation.
