After leaving Portland, I stayed the night beside a dirt road in the Tillamook State Forest. This was my view when I woke up.
Mist Fills the Valley |
Later in the morning, I went for a hike in Cape Lookout State Park outside of the town of Tillamook. The wind consistently blew mist through the trees and knocked water from their leaves and branches.
The trail wound its way through rainforest.
Start of Trail |
At times, the undergrowth tried to encroach on the trail.
Narrowed Trail |
Salmonberries were fairly plentiful...and a bit sour.
Salmonberries |
I had to pick my way around, through, and over quite a few tree roots.
Network of Roots |
It became a challenge in those areas where water filled up the spaces between the roots.
Water Filled Roots |
The view from Cape Lookout was mostly fogged in when I arrived at the trail's endpoint. Views of the ocean and coastline likely would have been available later in the day.
