I hiked 4.5-miles out-and-back along the McKenzie River.

You have nice views of the river during the first part of the trail.

The second part turns away from the river, although you are still close enough to hear it. Here the ground switches from traditional forest floor to lava rock, many of them moss covered.

A Dash of Pink amid Lots of Green and Brown

Upon arrival at the Tamolitch Blue Pool, you're rewarded with a view from lava cliffs down into a large pool of dark blue water with green highlights.

Arrival!

It's easy to find a spot along the rim of the cliffs and take in this natural wonder which gets its water from underground.
